{"id":697,"date":"2014-12-01T18:51:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-01T18:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vfnh.org\/veteranslawproject\/?p=697"},"modified":"2020-06-14T19:46:01","modified_gmt":"2020-06-14T19:46:01","slug":"697","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vfnh.org\/veteranslawproject\/2014\/12\/01\/697\/","title":{"rendered":"VFNH Gets Handicap Vet Rolling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Loren Gebo at the VA Manchester saw a patient struggling to get to his VA appointments and reached out to the VFW and they turned to the Veterans Foundation of NH, Inc. to help facilitate in providing a handicap accessible van donation.  Robert Sweetser of Derry, NH had a custom built handicap accessible van which was used by a family member for years, and it is now the first donated vehicle to VFNH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are grateful to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/robert.sweetser\">Sweetsers<\/a> for their thoughtfulness.&nbsp; They have been very forthcoming with the facts about the vehicle and patient throughout the process.&#8221; reports VFNH Executive Director, Tara Sue Myers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2007 Dodge Caravan is completely equipped for handicap accessibility, but needed a little work to pass inspection.&nbsp; &#8220;While we are welcoming of any vehicle donation, we weren&#8217;t comfortable with just handing it off to our veteran and delivering any potential problems.&nbsp; We had to make sure that it was safe and ready to roll.&#8221;&nbsp; &nbsp; New front and rear brakes, tires mounted and balanced and repair of the driver side window switch was completed by Randyll, a veteran who works at Moe&#8217;s Auto Service in Derry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Donating a vehicle is a win-win for both the donor and the recipient.&nbsp; Vehicle donations to VFNH enable donors to receive a tax-deductible contribution for the market-value of the automobile and it&#8217;s is a life-changing contribution for a needy veteran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It cost the foundation less than $1000 to get the van ready with title in hand.\u00a0 The estimated value of the vehicle is over $9000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;He is struggling to get to his VA appointments.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Veteran David Roberts relies upon others for transportation.&nbsp; He and his wife own one vehicle, a small sedan, which is barely accessible, difficult to use for the disable veteran who is wheel-chair bound due to a spinal cord injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoominfo.com\/p\/Loren-Gebo\/1901292471\">Loren Gebo at the Manchester VA<\/a> reached out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vfw.org\">VFW<\/a> and they referred her to VFNH to see if we could help.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The real star in this giving event is the Concord DMV.&#8221; Myers reports.&nbsp; &nbsp;&#8220;When they learned what VFNH was attempting to do, they moved with a quick-step to provide us with a same-day title so that we could expedite the delivery of the van without delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>VFNH thanks Loren Gebo at the VA, Donor Robert Sweetser and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nh.gov\/safety\/divisions\/dmv\/locations\/concord.htm\">Concord DMV<\/a> for helping the VFNH change the life of David Roberts in Manchester.&nbsp; Best to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There wasn&#8217;t a dry eye in the lot.&#8221;  Mr. &amp; Mrs. Sweetser, Ross &amp; Tara Sue Myers along with Randyll humbly shared the day with Mr. and Mrs. David Roberts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Ftara.sue.10%2Fposts%2F1001036036714523&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"438\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Loren Gebo at the VA Manchester saw a patient struggling to get to his VA appointments and reached out to the VFW and they turned to the Veterans Foundation of NH, Inc. to help facilitate in providing a handicap accessible van donation.
